What Customers Say About McElhaney's Trial Notebook (Third Edition):

I bought this book when I first graduated law school 15+ years ago and it has been very helpful. I just bought two more copies to give away to friends preparing for there first big case. They both loved the book.

I'm sure if I was a juror in a case he was trying, I would definitely be swayed in his direction. Again, he does not tell you, he shows you what to do, and why you should/should not do certain things.

It is worth every penny. This book is very helpful--especially to a new trial attorney.

His stories and advice captures you and you are on the outside looking in or like a fly on the wall. The author does not tell you directly what to do or how to think because you cannot tell a juror, judge, or sometimes even you own witness what to do or what to think.

You have to of course persuade them and let them think it was their idea to see your case your way. It is a very persuasive book.

It covers every topic from the point of view of a civil and a criminal case.

The seller is unresponsive to my emails. I have been waiting for over a month for this book. The course is nearly 1/2 over and it still has not arrived. I have filed an A-Z claim with Amazon to get my money back. Do not purchase from this seller.

The book is required for my Litigation class but so far the readings seem like common sense. However, I think it could be useful to someone who hasn't had much exposure to court or the legal system as a whole.

What I particularly enjoyed is that there are ninety chapters that are easily accessible because they are usually only six or seven pages long. This book contains a wide variety of articles that were written by James McElhaney for the American Bar Association's Litigation journal over the years. For instance, he has an enlightening chapter on trial practice that every lawyer must read. He dispenses a tremendous amount of wisdom collected from his own experience and that of other lawyers. McElhaney covers almost every conceivable subject for the trial lawyer. He covers the following: how to keep the client happy, getting rid of cases you have that have turned out "to be dogs," how to get along with judges, trying to settle cases, and deciding when it is time to leave your firm. In short, this book is filled with superb tips, anecdotes, and many war stories that make the pages turn very quickly.
